I'm in the process of cataloging my CD collection. This will make it easy for me to keep track of my CDs
and mostly, it gives me something else to play with on this web site. In order to do something like this,
you have to start with a good CD player/database application. I searched all the shareware web sites and tested
a few such programs, and I found this great Windows application called VisiTrax
from Synapsa Productions!
There are several reasons that I like VisiTrax. First of all, it is a very simple CD player. You can pop a CD
in the drive and it will play. Secondly, it supports the CDDB internet-based
music CD database; this means that if I'm on the internet, and I play a CD, VisiTrax will look up that CD on
the net and display all the songs (and other info) without me having to type it all in.
Third, it allows me to edit the CD info and store the data in my own database. So, for example, if the CDDB database
labels an Elton John CD as "rock", I can change it to "pop".
Fourth, it allows me to export all of the data to an ASCII text file, which I can then upload to this web
site; my own custom CGI program then provides this online interface into that data.
If you're looking for a good, easy-to-use CD database program, I highly recommend you check out VisiTrax.
